(Late) Muhammad Ismail Milo the founder of the Milo Shaheed Trust was Born at Quetta in a respectable family of Hazara Tribe on the 24th of May 1954. After Matric from a local school in 1972,He indulged in social activities. He was such a bold and action oriented person in handling Social Problems that he wasalways the pioneer of activities. These activities had created a keen observation in him with a clinical approch, Which made him decide to channelize his activities in a systematic and colloctive way. His main target was, To persuade the community towards their active participation in the solution of their problems. Hence he devised to take part in the Local Bodies Election. It was the time when people of the area were facing serious socio-cultural problems and deterioration of social values because of drug abuse and its traffickers. The young generation were the most afectted by the drugs. Milo's first priority in his election manifesto was the eradication of drug abuse from his constituency, Which was positively responded by the people. This determination led Milo to victory with an over whelming majority in the Nov. 1987 Local Bodies Election. Milo was such a motivated young man and determined to his Cause and Goal that his constituency was totally drug free within a short period of three months after being elected as councillor. Not a single drug addict or trafficker could be seen in his contituency. The people of his constituency were releaved of all anti social activities. But when Milo would see free sale and use of heroin in the streets out side his constituency and young man falling victim to the deadly drug, He was discontented with his achievement. This state of affairs made Milo resolve to purge the whole area of Hazara Community (comprising 200,000 population) from the menace of heroin. Thus Milo launched a mass public awareness campaign against drugs (especially Heroin) through personal contacts and corner meetings. After a year's tiring efforts Milo finally succeded in establishing the Trust by the name " Public Welfare Society for the Control of Drug Abuse" with a 20 bedded detoxification center on self help basis in September 1989. The center was formally inaugurated by the then Governor of Balochistan Late General (Rtd:) Muhammad Musa Khan on 28th of December 1989.
Soon after establishing the Trust, Milo felt that unless the sale of heroin in the streets is stopped the whole operation is meaningless and liky to fail, Because when heroin is freely available in the streets the recovered addict will always be at risk to relapse.
Eventually, Milo started the most dangerous and risky part of his campaign by involving himself in stopping the sale of heroin in the streets. His volunteers and co-workers became vigilant against the sale and use of heroin. Using his well cultivated contacts Milo persuaded the Police into raiding the heroin dens that he uncovered. Thus Milomade it impossible to sell or buy heroin on streets of the Hazara Community quarters of Quetta city, And the whole area was 90 % free of all anti socail activities including drug menace. In trying to clean the streets of heroin Milo saved many lives, At the cast of his own life. Finally, The drug Mafia struck against Muhammad Ismail Milo on Friday the 11th May 1990 and he was shot dead in cold blood by one of the Mafia agent at the gate of the Tust. The Public Welfare Society for Control of Drug Abuse was renamed as " MILO SHAHEED TRUST" After his Martyrdom.
In recogination of his dedication and supreme sacrifice of life for a noble cause, The President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan has been pleased to confer on Late Muhammad Ismail Milo the Award of " TAMGHA-E-SHUJAAT" (Posthumous) on 23rd of March 1994.
